Trichy Sankaran

Trichy Sankaran is an Indian Carnatic percussionist from Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, who began performing in the mid-20th century specialising in the mridangam and related South Indian percussion instruments. His musical approach emphasises intricate tala improvisation, solo rhythmic recitals and pedagogy, and he has engaged in cross-cultural collaborations that have helped bring South Indian percussion into international contemporary and academic contexts.
