Mátyás Seiber was a Hungarian-born composer who began his career in Central Europe and emigrated to Britain in the 1930s, working across classical, film and jazz genres. His compositions combined folk influences and jazz idioms with classical forms and later incorporated serial techniques, alongside a strong involvement in music education that helped establish academic study of jazz in Britain.
