Paul Wittgenstein

Paul Wittgenstein was an Austrian classical pianist who began his concert career in Vienna in the early 20th century and continued performing after losing his right arm in combat during the First World War. After the war he developed a repertoire for the left hand alone by commissioning and premiering new works from contemporary composers, shaping a specialised strand of piano repertoire and influencing attitudes to disability and virtuosity in European musical life.
