José Bragato was an Italian-born Argentine cellist, composer and arranger who emigrated to Argentina in his youth and built a career spanning classical symphony work and tango from the mid-20th century. He combined classical cello technique with tango idioms, arranging and transcribing works for chamber and ensemble settings and contributing to the integration of bowed strings in modern tango ensembles while later concentrating on composition, arrangement and preservation of tango repertoire.
