Sir Alexander Campbell Mackenzie

Sir Alexander Campbell Mackenzie was a Scottish composer, conductor and violinist born in Edinburgh in 1847 who studied in London and Germany and established his professional career in the late 19th century. He wrote operas, choral works, orchestral pieces and songs in a Romantic idiom often incorporating Scottish folk elements, and later occupied senior conducting and educational posts that influenced British musical institutions.
