Sir John Clerk

Sir John Clerk was a Scottish composer and baronet from Penicuik active in the early 18th century, composing within the Baroque tradition while also serving in legal and political roles. His surviving works, including chamber and keyboard pieces, show Italian and French Baroque influences, and his activities in architecture, antiquarianism and patronage helped shape the cultural life of Enlightenment Scotland.
