Peter Mennin

Peter Mennin was an American classical composer, born in 1923, who came to prominence in the mid-20th century and served as president of the Juilliard School from 1962 until his death in 1983. His music is characterised by concentrated forms, contrapuntal textures and a strong rhythmic drive, often realised in large-scale orchestral and choral works, and he held prominent roles in American academic musical institutions of his era.
