Vasyl Barvinsky

Vasyl Barvinsky (Василь Барвінський) was a Ukrainian composer and pianist born in 1888 in Sniatyn, then part of Austria-Hungary, who began his career in the early 20th century and worked primarily in the classical music tradition. His work combined late-Romantic harmonic language with Ukrainian folk melodies and liturgical themes across piano miniatures, chamber and choral works, and his career and output were affected by the changing political context in Western Ukraine during the interwar period and the Soviet era.
