Johann Wenzel Kalliwoda was a Bohemian (Czech) composer, violinist and conductor born in Prague in 1801 who began his career in the early Romantic era and worked primarily in Central European musical institutions. His substantial output of symphonies, overtures, concertante pieces, chamber music and stage works bridges Classical forms and early Romantic orchestration, often reflecting regional melodic colours while serving the practical needs of court and theatre ensembles.
