Peter Schidlof

Peter Schidlof was an Austrian-born violist who settled in Britain after fleeing Austria in 1938 and began his professional career in chamber music in the 1940s as a co-founder of the Amadeus Quartet. He concentrated on Classical and Romantic chamber repertoire, favouring a blend of lyrical phrasing and tight ensemble cohesion, and through long-term quartet activity contributed to post-war chamber performance practice in Britain.
