Elie Siegmeister
Elie Siegmeister was an American composer and educator born in New York City in 1909 who began his career in the 1930s and worked primarily within the classical tradition across orchestral, operatic, choral and song forms. His music frequently drew on American folk, blues and jazz elements within a broadly tonal modernist idiom, and over his career he was active in music education and the promotion of American musical themes.
