Ary Barroso was a Brazilian composer and songwriter born in Ubá, Minas Gerais, in 1903 who established his career in Rio de Janeiro in the 1930s working in radio and popular music. His compositions, including the 1939 samba "Aquarela do Brasil", combined samba rhythms with nationalist lyrical themes and were used in radio and film, contributing to mid-20th-century Brazilian popular music and cultural representation.
