Chico Freeman is an American jazz saxophonist and clarinettist from Chicago who began his professional career in the early 1970s and has worked across post-bop, avant-garde and free jazz contexts. His music combines composed frameworks with free improvisation, moving between acoustic quartet formats, large ensembles and experimental collaborations associated with the progressive independent-jazz scene and the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians.
