Domenico Carlo Maria Dragonetti was an Italian double-bass virtuoso and composer from Venice (born 1763) who began his career in the late eighteenth century and spent much of his professional life in London performing in orchestras and as a soloist within the classical and early Romantic traditions. He broadened the technical and expressive possibilities of the double bass through transcriptions, original works and solo performances, and his playing and arrangements influenced the instrument's role in nineteenth-century European orchestral and chamber music.
