Toivo Kuula

Toivo Kuula was a Finnish composer born in Hämeenlinna in 1883 who began his career in the early 20th century and is associated with late-Romantic and national romantic styles. His music combined lush orchestration, modal harmonies and Finnish folk elements across songs, choral pieces and orchestral works, and his life and career were cut short in 1918, leaving a concentrated body of work tied to Finland's musical nationalism around independence.
