Paulinho da Costa is a Brazilian percussionist from Rio de Janeiro who began his career in the 1960s and moved to Los Angeles in the 1970s, working across jazz, pop, soul, funk and Brazilian music. He is known for his wide array of percussion instruments and techniques, blending samba and other Brazilian rhythms with North American popular music and contributing distinctive percussion textures to a broad range of studio recordings.
