Ira Gershwin

Ira Gershwin was an American lyricist from Brooklyn, New York, who began his career in the 1910s writing popular songs and musical theatre lyrics. His work was characterised by sophisticated internal rhyme, conversational phrasing and wit, and he moved from Tin Pan Alley to Broadway, reflecting developments in American popular song and musical theatre across the mid-20th century.
