Michel Benita

Michel Benita is an Algerian-born French jazz double bassist and composer who began his professional career in the 1970s and has been based in Paris, working across contemporary and improvised jazz. His musical approach emphasises lyrical, chamber-jazz textures that blend acoustic bass with modern jazz harmony and elements of world and improvised music, and over time he has shifted from extensive sideman work to leading intimate ensembles and composing for small groups.
