Sir Charles Thompson was an American jazz pianist and organist who began his professional career in the 1930s, emerging from the swing and early bebop scenes. His playing blended a swinging rhythmic sensibility with bop-influenced harmonies, and he worked extensively as a sideman, leader and arranger, contributing to the evolution of mid-20th-century jazz piano styles.
