The Canticles is a collection of five canticles by English composer Benjamin Britten, composed between 1947 and 1974. Scored for various combinations of voice and small ensemble, they blend chamber-music textures with settings of sacred and poetic texts, illustrating Britten's concise vocal writing, attention to word-setting and refined use of instrumental colour, and represent a distinctive strand of his mid- to late-career output.
