Mefistofele is an opera by Italian composer Arrigo Boito, first performed in 1868. The score combines grand Romantic orchestration with extensive choral writing and solo numbers drawn from the Faust legend, and Boito substantially revised the original 1868 version in the 1870s into a shorter, more dramatically focused edition that became the more commonly performed version.
