Ayres
Album by John Dowland & The Hilliard Ensemble
Ayres is a collection of lute songs by English composer John Dowland, published in 1597. The pieces pair melancholic vocal lines with intricate lute accompaniment in the late Renaissance English lute-song tradition, emphasising expressive text‑setting and modal harmonies and serving as a central example of Dowland's contribution to the development of English vocal music.
