Messiah
Album by George Frideric Handel & New York Philharmonic & Westminster Choir & Leonard Bernstein & Adele Addison & Russell Oberlin & David Lloyd & William Warfield
Messiah is an oratorio by Georg Friedrich Händel, composed in 1741 and first performed in Dublin in 1742. The work combines Baroque orchestral writing with solo arias, recitatives and expansive choral passages rooted in contrapuntal harmony, and it occupies a pivotal position in Handel's late-career output and the wider Western sacred choral tradition.
