Symphony no. 4
Album by Gustav Mahler & Carolyn Sampson & Minnesota Orchestra & Osmo Vänskä
Symphony No. 4 is the fourth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1900 and first performed in 1901. The work blends late-Romantic orchestration with unusually transparent textures and a concluding movement for soprano, juxtaposing childlike simplicity and existential reflection and signalling Mahler's move toward more song-like, concise structures in his later symphonies.
