Symphony no. 10
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra & Vasily Petrenko
Symphony No. 10 in E minor, Op. 93 is the tenth symphony by Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich, completed in 1953. The four-movement work combines late-Romantic orchestration with modernist harmonic and rhythmic language, featuring stark contrasts between sombre, introspective passages and aggressive, motoric episodes, and it marks a pivotal point in his output as his first major symphonic statement composed in the immediate aftermath of Stalin's death.
