Symphony No. 7 is the seventh symphony by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich, completed in 1942. Composed during the Second World War and closely associated with the siege of Leningrad, the work is a large-scale orchestral symphony characterised by expansive structures, stark contrasts, prominent brass and percussion, and prolonged thematic development that reflect its wartime context and an important phase in Shostakovich's output.
