Transfigured Night is a string sextet composed by Austrian composer Arnold Schoenberg in 1899. The piece is a late-Romantic programme work characterised by dense chromatic string writing, expanded tonal harmony and rich textures (later arranged for string orchestra), and it occupies a pivotal place in Schoenberg's output as an early work that foreshadows his move towards greater harmonic experimentation and modernism.
