Messiah
Album by George Frideric Handel & Collegium Musicum 90 & Richard Hickox
Messiah is an English-language oratorio by George Frideric Handel, composed in 1741 and first performed in Dublin in 1742. The work blends Baroque choral and orchestral writing with solo arias and choruses, employing contrapuntal choruses and expressive solo writing set to biblical texts, and it represents a late-career vocal-orchestral composition by Handel that contributed to the development of the English oratorio tradition.
