Dante Symphony
Album by Franz Liszt & Stedelijk Helmonds Concertkoor & Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest & James Conlon
The Dante Symphony is a symphonic work by Hungarian composer Franz Liszt, composed in 1855–1856. A large-scale programme symphony inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy, it employs dramatic orchestration, stark harmonic contrasts and an extended choral finale to depict infernal and purgatorial scenes, and it represents a key example of Liszt's exploration of programme music and large-scale symphonic writing.
