Die Schöpfung is an oratorio by Austrian composer Joseph Haydn, first performed in Vienna in 1798. The work combines Classical-era choral and orchestral forces with operatic solo writing and programme-driven orchestration to portray the Biblical account of creation, and it represents one of Haydn's late choral-orchestral works that synthesises his mature compositional style with the oratorio tradition.
