La bohème is an opera by Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, premiered in 1896. An example of the verismo tradition, it features lyrical melodies, vivid orchestration and ensemble writing to portray the lives of young bohemians in 19th-century Paris, and it was an early success that helped establish Puccini's reputation within the operatic repertoire.
