Scheherazade
Album by Nikolai Andreyevich Rimsky‐Korsakov & Valery Gergiev & Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre
Scheherazade is a symphonic suite by Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, composed in 1888. The work is richly orchestrated and programme-driven, employing vivid orchestral colour, prominent solo writing and recurring thematic material to evoke narratives from One Thousand and One Nights, and it exemplifies Rimsky-Korsakov's development as a master of orchestration while influencing later orchestral writing.
