Cello Sonatas
Album by Felix Mendelssohn & Edvard Grieg & Stephen Hough & Steven Isserlis & Stephen Hough
The Cello Sonatas are a pair of chamber works by Felix Mendelssohn, composed in 1838 and 1843. They exemplify early Romantic chamber music, combining classical sonata structures with Mendelssohn's characteristic fleet textures, lyrical cello writing and brisk piano accompaniment, and they occupy a late phase of his chamber output as he moved towards more intimate instrumental forms.
