Symphony no. 5

Album by Gustav Mahler & WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln & Hans Rosbaud

Symphony No. 5 is the fifth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1902. A large-scale late-Romantic orchestral work characterised by its complex structure, stark contrasts, expansive orchestration and wide dynamic range, it represents a turning point in Mahler's output as he shifted from works incorporating vocal forces to purely instrumental symphonic writing.
