Coronation Anthems
Album by George Frideric Handel & Academy of St Martin in the Fields & Academy of St Martin in the Fields Chorus & Sir Neville Marriner
Coronation Anthems is a set of choral anthems by Georg Friedrich Händel, composed in 1727 for the coronation of King George II. These Baroque works combine full chorus, solo voices and orchestra in a ceremonial musical language characterised by dramatic contrasts, contrapuntal writing and bold harmonic gestures, and they occupy a key place in Händel's output of sacred and ceremonial music and in the British coronation tradition.
