Ma Vlast

Album by Bedřich Smetana & Česká filharmonie & Václav Talich

Ma Vlast is a cycle of six symphonic poems by Czech composer Bedřich Smetana, composed between 1874 and 1879. The work exemplifies late Romantic orchestral writing with nationalistic themes, using lyrical melodies, folk-inspired motifs and vivid orchestral colour to evoke Bohemian landscapes and legends, and it occupies a central place in Smetana's mature output and the development of Czech national music.
First released: 17th March 1998
