Mikrokosmos is a collection of progressive piano pieces by Hungarian composer Béla Bartók, composed between 1926 and 1939. Designed as a pedagogical series that advances from elementary exercises to advanced repertoire, it explores folk-inspired modes, modern harmonies and rhythmic experimentation and occupies a transitional role in Bartók's output between his folkloric studies and later modernist works.
