Winterreise is a song cycle by Franz Schubert, composed in 1827. The cycle is a sequence of Lieder for solo voice and piano that has an austere, mournful mood with stark piano textures and expressive vocal lines, and it comes from late in Schubert's career when he turned to darker, more introspective material.
