Aida is an opera by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi, premiered in 1871. A grand-opera work in the Italian tradition, it combines expansive orchestration, emphasised choral writing and lyrical solo vocal lines to support large-scale dramatic staging, and it is a key example of Verdi's mature output and of 19th-century grand opera.
