Symphonies nos. 4 & 5
Album by Ludwig van Beethoven & Minnesota Orchestra & Osmo Vänskä
Symphonies Nos. 4 and 5 are orchestral works by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed in 1806 and 1808 respectively. Rooted in the Classical tradition but expanding into the early Romantic idiom, the two symphonies contrast the lyrical, poised character of the Fourth with the dramatic, motivically driven language of the Fifth, and together they mark a key phase in Beethoven's development as a symphonist and in the broader evolution of Western orchestral music.
