Leçons de Ténèbres

Album by Marc‐Antoine Charpentier & Concerto Vocale & René Jacobs

Leçons de ténèbres is a set of Baroque sacred vocal works by Marc-Antoine Charpentier, composed in the late 17th century (c. 1680s). They are settings of the Lamentations for Holy Week written for solo voice(s) with continuo and small ensemble, characterised by ornate melismas, expressive dissonance and sombre affect that reflect French Baroque liturgical practice and occupy a distinct place in Charpentier's sacred-music output.
