Symphony no. 1

Album by Edward Elgar & London Philharmonic Orchestra & Vernon Handley

Symphony No. 1 is the first symphony by English composer Edward Elgar, completed and premiered in 1908. The work is a large-scale orchestral symphony in the late-Romantic idiom, characterised by expansive structures, rich orchestration and sweeping melodic material, and it occupies a pivotal place in Elgar's career as his first major symphonic statement that helped bring his music to international attention.
