Messiah is an oratorio by George Frideric Handel, composed in 1741 and first performed in Dublin in 1742. A Baroque work for solo voices, chorus and orchestra, it showcases Handel's mature choral writing with contrasts between recitative, aria and large-scale choral passages, and it occupies an important place in his later output and in the wider choral tradition.
