Symphonies Nos. 4 and 5 are orchestral works by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed in 1806 and 1808 respectively. They contrast the lighter, classically inflected character of the Fourth with the dramatic, motivically driven language of the Fifth, and together they mark a pivotal point in Beethoven's middle period as he expanded symphonic form and expressive range.
