Bolero
Album by Maurice Ravel & Gabriel Pierné & Thierry Escaich & Jean Françaix & Ellipsos Quartet
Boléro is a one-movement orchestral composition by French composer Maurice Ravel, composed and first performed in 1928. The work is characterised by a persistent rhythmic ostinato and a repeating melody that is passed through increasingly varied orchestral colours and dynamics, and it occupies a position in Ravel's late output as an exploration of orchestration and minimalist thematic development in early twentieth-century French music.
