Symphony No. 5
Album by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky & The Philadelphia Orchestra & Eugene Ormandy
Symphony No. 5 in E minor, Op. 64 is the fifth symphony by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, completed in 1888. Musically it is a Romantic orchestral work characterised by recurring motifs that bind its four movements, expansive melodies, lush orchestration and contrasts between introspective passages and dramatic climaxes, and it represents a key statement in Tchaikovsky's middle-to-late symphonic output.
