Symphony no. 2

Album by Gustav Mahler & Evgeny Fyodorovich Svetlanov

Symphony No. 2 is a symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1894 and first performed in 1895. Scored for a large orchestra with chorus and vocal soloists, it combines late-Romantic orchestration, dramatic contrasts and expansive formal scope, and it marks a key step toward Mahler's later monumental symphonies and the broader expansion of symphonic language around the turn of the 20th century.
First released: 1996
