Symphony No. 1 is the first symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1888. The work blends late-Romantic orchestral forces with expansive structures, vivid orchestration and melodic material drawn from songs and folk elements, and it occupies a pivotal place in Mahler's development as a symphonist and in the evolution of the large-scale late-Romantic symphony.
