Coronation Anthems
Album by George Frideric Handel & The Sixteen & Harry Christophers
Coronation Anthems is a set of anthems by George Frideric Handel, composed in 1727 for the coronation of King George II. They are large-scale Baroque choral and orchestral works characterised by dramatic contrasts between solo, choral and orchestral textures, ceremonial sonorities and contrapuntal writing, and they occupy an important place in Handel's output as his major ceremonial choral music for state occasions.
