4 Scherzi is the collective name for the four piano scherzos by Frédéric Chopin, composed in the 1830s and early 1840s. These Romantic-era piano works are characterised by dramatic contrasts, expansive structures, virtuosic technical demands and sweeping lyrical passages, and they mark a significant phase in Chopin's mature output as explorations of the piano's expressive and formal possibilities.
